Hello everyone! We're glad you're here. Thanks for coming to our gigs. I'll be saying a few words here for you from time to time. Enjoy!
Gig Review: Thu 8th May, 2003, Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon
Jon flying back from Spain on the morning of the gig was always going to be a bit risky. Needless to say, the inevitable happened, and we received a text message at 18.30 saying Jon wasn't going to land until 55 minutes before we went on stage. We could cancel the gig, play without a drummer, or find someone else to stand in.
After a soothing round of beers and bacon double cheesburgers, we decided to try out Jon's mate Nigel, who Jon had asked to do the sound check for him, and who turned out to be able to play the drums himself. Mojo and Jolyon went off to drink G & T and smoke respectively, leaving Ben to hurriedly teach Nigel the set.
After a hectic run through, and a nervous hour or so, we took the stage at ten with our stand-in drummer, with band orders to "play loud and look confident."
It all went off suprisingly well - Nigel didn't always know when to start and stop, but he kept a solid beat, and Mojo and Jolyon rose to the occasion. Ben chatted happily to the audience about the 'Last Spanish Tourist,' and demonstrated his growing confidence behind the mic. Set highlights were probably 'Dying for Love' and 'Don't Give In,' but the band did justice to the whole set.
Set list was
- City In The Crowd
- The Anyway
- Are You Real
- Dying For Love
- Don't Give In
- Symphony Of Silence
- Never Broke My Heart
- Farmer's Son
- Strongarm Sid
- Day To Day
- Are You Real (again!).
Thanks to
- Everyone who came to see us, making it our biggest night at the Betsey so far
- Plum Promotions for continuing to support us and give us the chance to play through that superb Betsey PA system
- Nigel for being a complete hero, and remaining cool, calm and collected at all times
The gig was recorded, so drop a member of the band a line if you'd like a copy on CD.

Gig Review: Thu 20th February, 2003, Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon
Our second gig, and not bad at all. The Betsey Trotwood is certainly an intimate venue - Jon had to have his drum kit built around him in the small alcove at the back of the stage! The girls from Plum Promotions really looked after us - plenty of time to sound check, resuling in a good clear sound. Mojo was finally able to hear herself with her new Peavey bass amp.
We were all a little nervous at the start of the set, but several minor disasters with the rhythm guitar (detuning at the beginning of one song, string breaking in the next song) relaxed us all, and Mojo, Jolyon and Jon ended up playing a lovely extended intro to Phones on Monday for a few minutes as guitars were changed.
We changed our set round a little from the Standard, and the new order worked a lot better for us: 1. City in the Crowd, 2. The Anyway, 3. Are You Real, 4. Phones on Monday, 5. Symphony of Silence, 6. Don't Give In, 7. Day in the Life, 8. Farmer's Son, 9. City in the Crowd (again!).
Really nice to see so many friends in the audience, including Jon's parents on their 45th Wedding Anniversary.
If you were there, let us know what you thought on the web Forum.
Plum Promotions have invited us back, so we're playing again on Friday 14th March - hope to see you there!
